At the core of the IRVINE Instrument lies a Gallium Phosphate Crystal, responsible for its evolving sound textures. Composer Rupert Huber explored the instrument over several years, developing a custom notation system and composing original works for both live performance and this recording.
The album cover features a defocused image of Huber playing the instrument — soft gradients and blurred hues evoke the sonic richness of the compositions. Pressed on transparent Crystallo vinyl, the material echoes the crystalline structure within the instrument, making light and sound part of a unified experience.
Minimalistic liner notes offer insight into the artist and the project’s background. Released in a limited edition of 300 signed copies, THE IRVINE Vinyl stands as a unique fusion of technology, composition, and visual storytelling.
