THE EXHIBITION

A photographic project by Pia Pivec and Heiko Tischler, presented at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Tokyo.
This ongoing body of work explores the poetic relationship between Austria and Japan by merging analogue photography with digital interventions. Through double exposures and minimalist compositions, the series reflects on memory, perception and cultural resonance.

A PHANTASMAGORIA
BETWEEN JAPAN AND AUSTRIA

The double exposures layer Japanese architecture and cityscapes with Styrian vineyards and facades, creating surreal, dreamlike images where boundaries dissolve and place becomes fluid. These visuals are neither fiction nor reality, but echoes of time and space.
The double exposures extend further through augmented reality, where analogue images come to life. Light shifts, textures ripple and memories stir, inviting viewers into a multisensory dialogue between image, space and imagination.

In contrast, a series of black-and-white still lifes captures quiet gestures and everyday scenes in Japan. Abstract red line graphics, inspired by Styrian nature, architecture and craftsmanship, are woven into the compositions and add a symbolic layer that connects distant geographies.
